Type Of Cut: Chips

A friend and I were at The Tank yesterday for "Tecate Mondays" and stumbled across these. They aren't actually on the menu but the awesome lady that works behind the bar there overheard our conversation and immediately declared that their fried pickles were the best in town.
The gauntlet was thrown and the challenge accepted!
After my third can, I told her to go work her magic (or whoever was in the kitchens magic) and a short time later an audible *ding ding* was ring out from behind the bar. The chips, which are cut pretty damn thick, were so piping hot that I had to let them cool while I ordered another beer. Finally however, my patience was rewarded.
As I mentioned above, the slices are on the thick side so if you are a fan of the thin and crispy then you should prepare yourself. What made up for this however was the fact that the batter was extremely crunchy, not one bit greasy, and it even had a slight kick to it. Normally when I get chips this size the batter is practically mush due to all the juice left in the pickle bits, but that was surely not the case here. Crispy, crispy batter.
Also of note was the fact that their ranch was home made, not that grossly thick, out of the bottle kind that you find in some places.
It is really hard to find fault with these pickles. Sure, they aren't cut to my preferred thickness, and some lightweights might find them a bit spicy, but there is nothing flawed about them in the preparation or taste department. They were a really solid offering. I'm at The Tank on a fairly regular basis and I will be sure to order these up again!
