The Black Sheep Lodge is a new place out on South Lamar which has already gathered quite a following. Good seating outside and a huge bar inside along with a new shuffle board table, numerous TV's and the regular sports bar entertainment. The staff has always been friendly to me on my several visits and genuinely seem like they want to be there.

But lets get to the reason I was there: the fried pickles. These are hands down the most unusual, and some of the most delicious, chips I have yet to come across. They use cornmeal to lightly bread and fry the pickles in. This gives them a very "love it or hate it" flavor and texture due to the somewhat gritty nature of the cornmeal. I obviously loved it. The second time I got them I asked to have them cooked on the crispy side and they were happy to oblige.

Something else that came as a pleasant surprise is that you get to choose your dipping sauce. Sure, they have the old ranch standby, but they also have the likes of jalapeno aioli (it's a sauce made of garlic and olive oil), curry catchup, a spicy mustard and a couple others that slip my mind.

Cold beer and margaritas (which are free right now until their liquor license comes through) will help the pickles go down. A good share of the customers were also getting burgers, which they have numerous kinds, and they looked delicious as well.
