Type Of Cut: Chips

This was my first time trying Fried Pickles. I was born in Texas but didn't grow up there so I have led a pretty unfulfilled life having not grown up on these things.
Since Pickle Gobbler had launched, I've been researching Los Angeles for places to test out this delicacy. Hooters seemed like a logical first step since they are everywhere. I would've also been able to get some kind of basis for my review since there is already a Hooters review on this site.
So I went to The Counter instead. Go figure.
The Counter is more well known for it's custom burgers than for it's Fried Pickles. Since I didn't want my 1/3 pounder covered in grilled onions, jalapeƱos, lettuce, mayo, and a fried egg to be lonely, I made sure to order up some fried pickle chips to keep it company... in my belly.
Upon arrival, the golden dills looked great. Freshly fried and served with a sweet & sour dipping sauce. I first tried one without sauce to get the pure flavor registered into my taste buds. The snap of the pickle (not the breading) was a pleasant surprise as I was not expecting it to still be that crisp after having spent time swimming in dangerously hot oil for several minutes. The flavor was very tasty and I was happy to have lost my fried pickle virginity. The second one I tried with the sauce but found it to be too overpowering and not the right flavor to compliment the pickle. Luckily there were half a dozen other sauces that came with the fries and burgers for me to test the pickles in. Ranch won (was there any doubt that it wouldn't?). The rest of my friends that were with me all lost their fried pickle virginity as well and really enjoyed them.
Overall, I think these were very good but since I have no basis to start from, I will now have to use this as my starting point. All future pickles will be judged against these and I'm sure there are better ones out there, even in LA.
